love, surrounded by enemies

You are not confused by my confusion.
You are not wearied by my weariness.
You are not broken by my brokenness.
You are not distracted by my distractions.
You are not frustrated by my frustrations.
You are not blinded by my blindness.
You are not weakened by my weakness.
You are not tormented by my tormentors.
You are not destroyed by my destroyers.

For these are my enemies, but you are fighter and friend, and in the midst of the battle we feast together at your table.
We eat amidst the chaos, we drink amid the calamity.
Not in ignorance but in confidence.
Not in risk but in safety.
You have prepared this table for me, and so in love and obedience I eat.
I consume your peace.
I drink your joy.
I digest every particle of your goodness and breathe in the sweet aroma of your holy presence.

The clamor and chaos of war may be all around me, but I do not feel or hear a thing.
For how can I hear the shouting of my enemies when you whisper in my ear?
How can I feel the threat of war when your arms are all around me?
How can I smell the stench of battle when your sweet breath fills my lungs?

I am enraptured by your beauty, captivated by your holiness.
And my fears flee like rats before the lion of your love.
And my enemies burn like brush beneath the fire of your Spirit.

Who in all the world is like you? And yet you made me like you.

I am not confused by my confusion.
I am not wearied by my weariness.
I am not broken by my brokenness.
I am not distracted by my distractions.
I am not frustrated by my frustrations.
I am not blinded by my blindness.
I am not weakened by my weakness.
I am not tormented by my tormentors.
I am not destroyed by my destroyers.

I am victorious because of your victory.

Hallelujah.
