children aren’t afraid of color,
but adults chose greys and whites and blacks.
“they work well with anything,” they say.
it’s another way of saying they’re afraid of color.
colors dont’t always mix well, and they don’t always create something beautiful.
sometimes colors don’t work together.
and that’s ok,
i’ve learned.
you chose your favorite color,
and i chose mine,
and we found out,
although separately each was beautiful,
together they were not.
but when you’re a child you do not care about such things.
but now i’m an adult,
and i am scared of colors.
